Daylight And Darkness: Episode 1. Pilot

In a office in the Midwestern United States, a lady comes in to give a man named Xavier a letter. Xavier D. Jackson is in charge of a very successful grocery-store chain known as Jim's. Xavier acknowledges the lady and politely sends her back to her desk as he begins to read his letter. A tear rolls down his face as he reads that his Grandfather, B.R. Jackson has passed away due to "natural causes". Xavier calls his secretary back into the room to tell her of the announcement. She asks if he needs anything? Xavier says to call his mother. She says OK and as she walks out his mother, Dr. Beth Sullivan Jackson comes through carrying the same letter and asks Xavier "What do you want to do?"
Xavier looks at his mother and says calmly yet fiercely "What do I do? Grandpa's gone." Beth then looks at Xavier crying with a shaking in her voice and tells Xavier that "we need to have a talk". Xavier tells Beth "Can it wait until we bury Grandpa and things return to normal again?" Beth replies to him "After I tell you what I have to tell you, NOTHING will ever be normal again!'' Xavier stares at his mother intently, trying to figure her out.

Meanwhile in a town in the Southeast, The Jackson family has gathered together at the homeplace simply called "Hell Hill" to discuss the plans for B.R.'s funeral. B.R. stands for Brock Rudolph but most simply called him B.R.. Oldest son Frank stands up to address the family with his younger sister Jamie stands at his side, Frank notifies everyone that apparently everything has already been set up with father's funeral as B.R.'s attorney's has already taken care of everything and that "All of us must put aside our differences and come together for "father's sake". Brock Jr, the youngest son stands up and angrily says "I got some ideas! First, you and Jamie needs to drop the act and "pretending" to care about our Daddy." Frank looks at Brock Jr in disgust and asks Brock Jr "This is not the time for us to fight about the past! We have already been doing that long enough! We need to stick together as a family now and try to figure out where to go from here." Brock Jr looks at his brother and sister with disgust and worry as Frank and Jamie try to keep calm within the room.

Back in the Midwest, Xavier looks totally shocked by what his mother has just told him. Beth tells him "I never really wanted to tell you but it's something that you need to know. You can prepare yourself for the war that's to come." Xavier looks at his mother furiously and yells at her, "Why didn't you tell me this years ago? Why?" Beth tells him, "Only B.R. and myself knew of this. Had I came out with this, it would have destroyed the family." Xavier looks at her and says "Hell, the family was already broken, what else did you have to lose?" Beth yells "Everything Xavier! You, my marriage to Frank which was over at the start anyways. He was nothing like his father." Xavier quips "We both knew that! I was the only child!'' Beth reminds him "Now's not the time for jokes. What do you want to do?" Xavier looks down at his desk and wonders that thought quietly as the secretary once again comes in the room to tell Xavier "You have a visitor." Xavier tells her to send them in! The visitor is B.R.'s longtime attorney, Bobby Whitten. Bobby sends his condolences to Xavier and Beth on B.R,'s passing. Xavier quips "You could have just sent a letter to tell us that instead of traveling all the way out here." Bobby then tells them, "We have to discuss B.R.'s will." Xavier and Beth both looks puzzled.
