Daylight And Darkness: Episode 124. Paying It Forward

  At the Funeral Home,Ruth is standing by her best friend Willie,looking at Sidney in his casket.Willie tells Ruth with tears flowing"That was his favorite suit.I can't believe he's gone."Ruth holds Willie as she cries as she mourns the loss of her husband of 64 years."Ruth gently reminds Willie"At least he's in heaven now.His memory is back and he isn't suffering anymore."Willie looks at Ruth and says"I know Ruth,but it isn't the same."Ruth is quiet and she and Willie heads over to have a seat as Aretha and Rashad walk over and brings Ruth and Willie some water and Aretha and Rashad consoles Willie as she cries for Sidney.Aretha looks at her Mother and asks"Mama you taught me when someone is suffering and God calls them home,then we rejoice because they are free."Willie looks at her daughter and says"I know Aretha.But it's hard to adjust to knowing that Sidney isn't here now.I guess I'm selfish but I am thankful he isn't in pain anymore."Aretha and Rashad gets a text from Terrance and Aretha tells Willie"Mama,I think Daddy may be watching over us."Willie asks"What is it?"Aretha looks at Rashad with a smile and says"You need to go down to City Hospital.Xavier bought it this morning and Beth's in charge again and Terrance has been promoted as well."Willie looks up and smiles and Ruth says to Willie"I also heard this weekend Frank has a surprise for you also.Sidney will be honored."Ruth pulls out her phone and shows a picture to Willie and Aretha and both of them smiles as they see Frank's race cars and Willie says with tears flowing"Sidney would love that."Ruth hugs Willie as Aretha sits with them in the Funeral Home as they plan Sidney's memorial.
  At Jackson Inc,Burt arrives in Xavier's office and Burt asks Xavier"What is so urgent Xavier?"Xavier tells Burt"I know about what happened in regards to Lily."Burt responds"She had it coming for years and we both know that."Xavier sighs"I know Burt.Trust me I know,but I think it may be a good idea for you to return to Blue Ridge."Burt is shocked and asks"Why?I thought you had everything covered."Xavier says"I do,but there's a new DA arriving that will try his best to bring my family down and you could be in trouble if you stay here."Burt answers"Is it Russell Marx that's returning?"Xavier replies"It is and I'm not pleased with it at all if you ask me but if I can deal with him,then we'll discuss your return."Burt confides in his friend and tells Xavier"I miss Blue Ridge anyway.I have tried to adjust to Adam's Landing,but I just can't do it."Xavier tells Burt"I'm going to put you in charge of our Midwestern operations at Jim's and our properties and we'll keep in touch."Burt looks at Xavier and tells him"It's been great working with you again.It's been quite a ride down here in Adam's Landing."Xavier laughs and says"Yes it has Burt.I've arranged everything and I'll have everything sent to you."Burt asks"What about living arrangements in Blue Ridge?I did sell my home?"Xavier quips"With your salary,you have nothing to worry about."Burt laughs and heads out and tells Xavier"Keep me informed on what happens."Xavier tells Burt"I will do that."Burt leaves and heads for the airport to return to Blue Ridge,as he could be in trouble if he stays in Adam's Landing in regards to Lily's murder.
  Meanwhile at City Hospital,Beth is in her office with Terrance as she's promoted him to Chief of Staff.Terrance asks Beth"So Xavier owns City Hospital now?"Beth smiles and says"Xavier is full of surprises and I'm going to become the CEO of City Hospital,but I plan to continue being hands on in the operating room or where-ever I am needed here."Terrance gives Beth a hug and thanks her for the promotion and Beth tells Terrance"I want you to do one thing for me however as my new Chief of Staff."Terrance asks"What is that Dr.Jackson?"Beth tells Terrance"Keep an close eye on Olivia North for me."Terrance is taken back and asks"Olivia Lane?"Beth re-corrects"North.She's a widow and she's also Allison's Mother."Terrance smirks"I wonder how Desi likes her oldest and smartest sister being in town?"Beth laughs"Who cares.I threw her out when I came back."Terrance laughs and says to Beth"I needed this boost after losing Daddy."Beth tells Terrance"You'll make an excellent Chief of Staff and your nephew will make an excellent doctor.I think we will have a great team here."Terrance agrees and Rashad arrives and Terrance tells him the news and Rashad beams with pride and Beth tells Rashad and Terrance"Welcome back to City Hospital."Terrance leaves to go to the Funeral Home and Beth asks"When's Sidney's Funeral?"Terrance replies"It will be tomorrow."Beth tells him"I'll run things here until you're ready to take over."Beth then tells Rashad"You don't have to stay.Go be with your family."Rashad hugs Beth and Rashad follows his Uncle as Beth heads down to the ICU to visit Jesse.
  Meanwhile downstairs at City Hospital,Ava,Winston,and Jack arrives as Jack wants to get tested to see if he's the match Winston needs to survive his battle with Leukemia.Olivia walks out and looks at Ava and both of them looks at each other and Ava is shocked and asks"I'd never thought you'd come back to town?"Olivia sighs and says"Me either but I'm here and on staff."Winston tells Ava and Jack"Olivia is a cancer specialist and she is one of the best in the business."Olivia looks over Winston's medical records and tells him"We're going to have to find a match soon."Winston has a weak spell and almost collapses as Ava catches him and Olivia takes Jack into the lab to test him."Winston looks at Ava with fear and says"I am scared Ava."Ava acts shocked and goes"Winston Hale is scared?"Winston tells Ava"I have always felt invincible but I don't feel so invincible now.It scares the hell out of me."Ava assures Winston"You will find a match and you'll be back to your evil self in no time."Winston hugs Ava and tells her"I owe you for being here for me."Ava grabs Winston's hand and tells him"I'd have it no other way."Meanwhile Jack walks out of the lab and Olivia looks at Winston and tells him"I hate to say this Winston,but Jack isn't a match.I have noticed that there's been quite a few that's been tested but none matches your blood type."Winston asks Olivia"So are you telling me I'm going to die?"Olivia takes a deep breath and tells him"We're going to do chemo until we find you a match but your chances are 50/50."Olivia walks away and Winston looks at Ava and tells her"I think I know a match."Ava is silent and Winston tells Ava who it is and Ava tells Jack"Take Winston home and I'm going to visit Xavier."Jack and Winston leaves as Ava heads to Jackson Inc.
   Meanwhile,Willie,Ruth,and Aretha has returned to Willie's home and they find Frank there with flowers and he gives Willie a hug and tells her"I'm so sorry about Sidney."Willie tells Frank with pride in her voice"He would be so honored with your tribute to him this weekend.I loved those pictures."Frank looks at his Mother and asks"You showed her what I was planning?"Ruth quickly replies"Yes I did."Frank hugs his Mother as they all sit down in the living room and reminisce about Sidney and Willie tells all of them"Sidney should have became a race car driver but in those days,racing was a white man sport and I'll never forget that time Sidney did attempt to race at the old fairgrounds on the edge of town.Ruth and B.R. sold him a car and Sidney tuned it up and as I recall someone was helping him."Frank raises his hand and laughs"I remember that like it was yesterday.He showed me many things about cars and racing."Willie continues"We got down to the fairgrounds and they wouldn't let him race because of his skin color and Sidney was so angry."Ruth comments"It was very unjust too.We all knew why they didn't want him there."Willie responds"I know B.R. got angry and pulled out his pistol and put a scare in them and Sidney got out there and won that race."Ruth tells Willie"I bet right now B.R. and Sidney are catching up on things in heaven."Willie closes her eyes and says"I know they are.I feel him in this house and all around."Aretha comes in the living room and brings everyone coffee and Ruth tells Aretha"You will always feel Sidney.I still feel B.R.'s presence."Meanwhile Terrance walks in the house with Rashad by his side and Aretha asks"What is the good news?"Terrance is beaming with pride and tells everyone"I am the new Chief of Staff at City Hospital.Beth told me that she will keep an eye on things until I'm ready to return."Willie and Aretha hugs Terrance and Willie smiles and says"You know that you're City Hospital's first African-American Chief of Staff.Your Daddy would be so proud."Terrance says humbly"I plan to do my best."Willie,Aretha,and Rashad gathers and hugs each other and all of them look up with a smile as they thank God and then Willie says with a tear"Sidney's watching over all of us."Ruth and Frank quietly leaves and heads back to The Farm as The Evans celebrate Terrance's promotion.
   Back at Jackson Inc,Ava arrives in Xavier's office and Xavier asks Ava"How did the test go?"Ava tells her Brother"Jack wasn't a match either and it's not looking good."Xavier looks down and asks Ava"Have you heard about Russell returning to town?"Ava responds"I got a call from him this morning.We had a conversation and he won't be coming back to town."Xavier is stunned and asks Ava"How did you manage to pull that off?"Ava grins and says"Why would he want to come back here?"Xavier tells Ava"I hope it works out."Ava responds"I do too."Meanwhile,Jack and Winston returns to Ava's mansion and Winston heads upstairs to his room to lay down and Jack sits and wonders for a moment as to who his Mother was referring to as a match for Winston and has a look of dread.Back at Jackson Inc,Ava and Xavier discuss Winston and Ava asks Xavier"I want to ask you something?"Xavier answers"What is it sis?"Ava tells Xavier"I know who can save Winston and I am going to get him.While I'm gone,I want you to take care of him and Jack for me."Xavier asks"Are you asking me to let Winston stay with Leigh and I?"Ava replies"I am asking that Xavier."Xavier begrudgingly accepts and warns Ava"I don't want you to do this by yourself."Xavier calls Burt,who's at the Airport and tells him"I want you to stay there and go with Ava to Europe."Burt answers"I will do that."Ava gives Xavier a hug and thanks him and Xavier tells Ava"Burt's going with you and I'll take care of Winston."Ava heads home and Xavier rolls his eyes and calls Leigh and tells her"Baby,we're going to have a visitor."
  At City Hospital,Olivia walks down to the ICU and walks into Jesse's room with Beth and asks her"Is this Desi's new boyfriend?"Beth says with disgust"Looks like it.The gunshot is similar to Xavier's when he was shot."Olivia looks at Beth and asks"You don't really want to do this surgery do you?"Beth looks at Olivia and says"I am a doctor Olivia,and that's my job."Beth tells the nurses in the room to take Jesse to the Operating room to prep him for surgery and Beth looks at Olivia and changes subjects to Allan and asks her"Do you love Allan?"Olivia tells Beth"Allan and I have a deep connection and if it hadn't been for Charles,we'd likely gotten married."Beth looks at Olivia and warns her"I will only say this one time but don't hurt my brother.He's already been hurt enough and been through hell and back."Olivia assures Beth"I am going to try to help Allan have a relationship with Allison and I'm going to meet with her at Salty's and Allan's going to be there."Beth tells Olivia"Just be careful of Mama.She isn't crazy about your family."Olivia quips"Neither am I.Why do you think I left Adam's Landing?"Olivia leaves and Beth heads down to the OR to operate on Jesse.
